The birth of one community church began as a joke... which turned into a conversation...which then became a life-altering reality.
"What if we started a new kind of church?"
Lead pastor Paul Dudley and his wife Karen jokingly asked this question in 2005 while doing ministry in Grand Rapids, Michigan. What started as a joke evolved into a major life shift, and in December 2005, Paul & Karen moved to Lynchburg to follow God's calling to plant a 'new' kind of church. In a city of 400 churches, Paul questioned 'why Lynchburg?' God continues to answer that question:
Because Christians need Jesus too.
One Community started with 2, then grew to 7, then 20, then 50, and on and on with the dream of doing life together and following the simple mission: love God and love people. One Community meant being one with the other local churches - being THE church, not just another church. One Community met in a basement, then a living room, then the James River Conference Center in 2007, to The Plaza, and then in 2010 to its current location on Kemper St.
